Kit AstroMedia for building the "Magic Lantern".
The mother of all projectors
The magic lantern is the mother of all those visual devices and media that have become an essential part of our modern world. Leonardo da Vinci is said to have experimented with projected images, but its real inventor is the Dutch physicist Christian Huygens. In 1659, he constructed an instrument for projecting images painted on glass plates with the help of an oil lamp. From the 17th century until the dawn of the cinema age, the magic lantern made a tremendously strong impression on viewers in fairground booths, salons or children's rooms. For until the triumph of the slide and film projector in the last century, the "magic lantern" was the only way to project still or moving images. Nothing has changed in its design principle since then.
Slide show like in former times
You have several possibilities to project images with the magic lantern. The basis is always a foil cut into stripes. Each copy of the Laterna Magica comes with a strip of sample images and a blank film. The latter you can paint yourself or design with the help of your inkjet Printer.
