MAGUS Bio DH260 Biological Digital Microscope
The MAGUS Bio DH260 microscope is an everyday microscope that is designed in the basic configuration for working with biological samples in transmitted light using the brightfield method. Equipping the device with additional components will allow you to conduct research in fluorescent or polarized light as well as use the darkfield method or phase contrast. The microscope features a binocular head with a built-in camera and a coded revolving nosepiece, which, when changing magnification, maintains the user-selected illumination intensity. It also has an LCD screen that displays the operating parameters of the microscope.
The head with two eyepiece tubes is complemented by a digital camera. The eyepiece tubes are designed for infinity-corrected optics. By rotating the tubes, the user can position them to suit their height. The microscope kit includes 10x/22mm eyepieces that are equipped with a mechanism for diopter adjustment and long eye relief for working while wearing glasses. To protect the lenses from scuffs and scratches, flat rubber eyecups are placed on the eyepieces.
The built-in digital camera with an 8MP sensor produces images with 4K resolution (3840x2160px). The high resolution will allow you to study the sample in detail. The camera is the most effective when paired with 4x and 10x objectives. When shooting video, the camera produces 30fps at the highest resolution: The footage is of high quality, and movement is conveyed authentically without any “gaps” between frames. The camera can be used for photo and video recording of research, displaying images on the screen, and for focusing the optical system. The device is equipped with a Wi-Fi interface that is used to transfer data to external devices.
The revolving nosepiece has slots for 5 objectives. It is installed “toward the interior”: The working objective is located closer to the user, and the other objectives are directed in the opposite direction. This position leaves a lot of free space in front of the user, which can be used to manipulate the sample. The microscope comes with four plan achromatic objectives of different magnifications; the user can fill the fifth slot based on their needs. The parfocal distance is 60mm. The slot above the revolver is designed to accommodate the analyzer when working in polarized light.
The revolving nosepiece is coded: The user sets the light intensity for each objective once, and then when the revolver is turned, the light is adjusted automatically. This feature makes working on the microscope faster and more comfortable: Each objective transmits light differently depending on its magnification. When switching objectives, the light intensity in the eyepiece changes greatly, and it needs to be adjusted each time. In addition, changes in light brightness tire your eyes. The coded revolver saves you time and effort.
Focusing is done using the coarse and fine adjustment knobs that are located on the same axis. Coarse adjustment is made with the handle on the left, and for fine adjustment, there are handles on both sides. The handle on the right side has grooves for your fingers. The rigidity of the coarse focusing travel can be adjusted with the special adjustment ring on the left.
The stage does not have a positioning rack, which makes the design more ergonomic. The sample moves along the surface of the stage using a belt drive mechanism. The specimen holder is initially fixed to the stage with two screws, but it can be quickly removed if manual scanning is performed. The stage is controlled by a long handle: To manipulate it, the user can conveniently keep their hands on the table.
The condenser under the stage controls the illumination of the sample using an iris diaphragm. For ease of adjustment, the condenser on this microscope has marks indicating the magnification of the objectives, and on its ring, there is a pointer, which is set to the mark corresponding to the selected objective. As a result, the image is clear and contrasty. When conducting studies using the darkfield or phase contrast methods, the corresponding sliders are installed in a slot on the condenser.
The light source in the microscope is a 3W LED with a stable color temperature. The LEDs have a lifespan of 50,000 hours. The microscope features Köhler illumination, which creates even lighting of the object across the entire field of view. The objectives operate with maximum resolution and dust or other foreign objects don’t get in the field of view.
Operating parameters are displayed on the LCD screen, which is built into the base of the microscope. You can see the selected objective magnification, illuminator brightness, and operating mode on it and set the auto-shutdown time. Manipulations are performed using two handles.
The design of the microscope has been well-thought-out for comfortable work. There is a special handle for moving it, and the power cord is hidden: It is safe and convenient for operation and storage. The microscope can be supplemented with the necessary accessories to expand its functionality: eyepieces, components for optional research methods, and a calibration slide for measuring objects.
